This time I came to Kunming to participate in an industry exhibition and stayed at Kunming Jinjiang Hotel. Originally, I only came for its core location adjacent to Kunming Station. However, after experiencing the whole process, what impressed me the most was not the open city view in the city center, but the excellent service from check-in to check-out, which is a solid quality that only old high star hotels rooted in Kunming for decades have.
I arrived at the hotel at around 11 o'clock late at night, dragging my suitcase. I had just taken a high-speed train for over ten hours from out of town, and my whole body was exhausted from altitude sickness. The doorman came up from a distance and took my suitcase, leading me all the way to the front desk. When checking in, the front desk girl noticed that my face was not very good. After completing the procedures, she turned around and handed me a cup of warm Yunnan red ginger tea. She smiled and said that I was prone to altitude sickness when I first arrived in Kunming, so I had to take a warm drink to slow down. She also took the initiative to hand me a small box of free portable oxygen cylinders, afraid that I would feel uncomfortable when I rested at night. I casually mentioned that the suit I was going to wear the next day was all wrinkled in my suitcase, and she immediately said that the housekeeping department provides free ironing service 24 hours a day, and can help me iron the clothes flat and straight within ten minutes.
Within ten minutes of returning to the room, the room service brought over the ironed suit and also brought a small plate of locally cut Baozhu pear, which was said to be a seasonal specialty fruit in Kunming. It was sweet and refreshing, and could relieve the dryness of the journey. Halfway through, I was rushing to prepare my exhibition speech for the next day at the writing desk. I called the front desk to ask if there were any extra file bags and sticky notes. In less than five minutes, the staff delivered the items to the door and even handed me two signature pens and a small bottle of cool oil, fearing that I might get sleepy while staying up late to rush through the materials.
The next day, I rushed to the exhibition site early. As soon as I arrived at the lobby, the front desk recognized me and took the initiative to tell me that my reserved vehicle had been waiting at the door five minutes in advance, afraid that I would be in a hurry to sign in. They even helped me move the exhibition materials bag stored at the front desk to the car in advance. Halfway through, I accidentally left a handbag containing an important USB drive for the exhibition at the hotel's breakfast room. The cleaning lady noticed it and immediately handed it over to the front desk. The staff took a photo and sent me a text message to confirm the characteristics of the handbag, fearing that I would be in a hurry. They even arranged for a staff member to deliver it directly to the entrance of the exhibition venue, without delaying my subsequent project promotion process.
Having stayed in so many old hotels in various cities, many places' services are limited to "completing standard actions according to procedures". This time I came to Kunming to explore Dianchi Lake and run local projects, I specifically chose Kunming Jinjiang Hotel. I have heard from friends who often come to Yunnan that it is an old high star hotel that has carried the memories of several generations in Kunming. It is located at No. 98 Beijing Road, Guandu District, just an 8-minute walk from Kunming Station. You don't have to drag your luggage box around in the sunny spring city. After staying for three days, I realized that it not only has a unique location, but also incorporates the slow pace of Kunming and the solid warmth of old hotels into every detail of accommodation.
The check-in process was particularly smooth. The security guard at the gate saw me carrying two large boxes of Yunnan specialties and took the initiative to help deliver them to the lobby. After verifying the information, the front desk specially arranged a high-rise room facing the city view for me. He also smiled and reminded me that the observation deck on the top floor of the hotel could see the beautiful sunset of Kunming in the evening, and when the weather was good, I could also overlook the outline of Xishan Mountain. The detailed experience of accommodation is particularly solid, with a 1.6-meter-wide solid wood desk by the window and a multi port charging panel that does not require searching for sockets all over the floor. Occasionally, some work needs to be done, and sitting down safely can focus on completing it. The most surprising thing is the texture of the bedding, with fluffy and soft mattresses and high count cotton bedding. After wandering around Dianchi Lake for a whole day and walking tens of thousands of steps, I was able to sleep soundly all night without the insomnia that is common in hotels in unfamiliar high-altitude cities. There are independent touch desk lamps and charging panels installed on both sides of the bed, so you can turn off the lights easily while lying in bed without having to get up in the dark to find the switch. The bathroom has undergone a complete separation of dry and wet areas, with hot water flowing out quickly and steadily. The cleaning is spotlessly clean, and there are no water stains left on the countertops. Even the corners and crevices are not covered in dust.
The most surprising thing is its location advantage, it can reach Kunming Station within a 5-minute walk, catch the early high-speed train to Dali and Lijiang, and even leave the hotel 30 minutes in advance. Two kilometers to the south is the Haigeng Dam of Dianchi Lake. You can take the subway to Guandu Ancient Town within a few stops. If you want to visit the local scenic spots and eat the authentic Crossing the bridge noodles, you don't need to take a taxi to find a place far away. The hotel offers a wide variety of breakfast options, with authentic Yunnan style rice noodles and flower cakes made in an especially authentic way, eliminating the need to go out and look for old brands.
During my three days here, I didn't have to rush to work an hour earlier every day. After strolling around Dianchi Lake, I could leisurely walk back to the hotel to rest, without having to squeeze into the congested traffic in the city. As one of the few well-established high star hotels in the city center of Kunming, Kunming Jinjiang Hotel does not have excessive marketing gimmicks, but provides guests with the most reliable accommodation experience with solid details and attentive service.
